About Us

A genuine love for good food and great coffee brought us together. We're two foodies, adventurers, and wanderers in search of the next best culinary adventure - Anahí, from Costa Rica; and Lalitha, from India. Barcelona brought us together, and we became fast friends over the course of a very long evening full of fun, laughter, and of course, food.

The project and name Tamarind and Spice had been on Anahí’s mind since her first trip to India in 2016. Our conversations would often veer towards a comparative look at our cultures - how they were similar, and where they differed. The most surprising thing we discovered was how our native cuisines had many flavour profiles in common, and that many dishes from both cuisines complemented each other seamlessly. This took us into a broader exploration of tropical culinary traditions, against the amazing cosmopolitan backdrop of Barcelona, which offered us ample opportunity for foodie adventures.

We also realised that it can be quite daunting for a person to travel to a completely different part of the world, with all the accompanying differences we commonly perceive. But if we delve just a little deeper and explore a little, we find that our similarities outweigh differences. We believe a fun and accessible way to live this is exploring culture through its cuisine.

Tamarind And Spice is here to help like-minded explorers satisfy their need for authentic local experiences and interesting culinary traditions, with a group of adventurers ready to try the same thing. We want to bring our expertise and insight, and translate it into meaningful experiences at different levels.
